Business Requirements

The TN card is a loyalty reward scheme for shoppers in Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, and Sevenoaks communities, encouraging people to support their local independents. Membership with The TN Card entitles users to a broad range of rewards at local shops, restaurants, bars, hotels, and days out. The company also donates 10% of all membership fees to West Kent Mind at the end of each month, supporting mental health in West Kent.
In 2022, we were contacted by one of our close partners looking for technical assistance with an existing app they were helping to manage on behalf of The TN Card. They were looking to develop a long-term partnership with our development team to provide new and exciting features to the app. But first, there was a list of high-priority tasks that needed to be resolved to get the app into a robust working condition for all its users.
With a website built using Laravel, and two native apps for iOS and Android, it was key that the team on this project needed to be highly experienced and able to face any challenge, planned or unplanned. The TN Card was assigned an Account Manager who worked closely with our CTO and Head of Bespoke Technologies to build a strong dedicated team.

Our Solution

After being provided with a detailed brief of the current issues on the existing app, all of which were marked as urgent priorities directly affecting sales and members, we started our assessment of the app to locate the issues. Following a comprehensive review, and some further scoping out from the client to ensure everything was correctly understood, we were able to provide our recommendations and advice on how to fix each point.

The key priorities raised under Phase 1 were:

  • Ensuring all new memberships are correctly registered in the system
  • Allowing membership renewals to correctly reflect and charge customers appropriately
  • Remove duplications of existing members
  • Enabling access to the membership card when users are offline
  • Enabling QR codes to be scanned when users are offline

Following the success of Phase 1 and resolution of pre-existing legacy issues, we progressed to the next phase of additional features to improve user experience. This included implementation of a ‘Contact Us’ feature via email, adding a redirect to notifications of new businesses, and fixing the use of the favourites tab.

The Results

The TN Card now has a more stable application for its users, with new features to help provide a better experience and allow for more confidence in this small business. We are delighted to be a part of The TN Card’s journey in encouraging people to shop locally whilst supporting an incredibly important cause. We already have new work in the pipeline and can’t wait to see The TN Card grow.
